Description
Acid and Alkali RTD Sensor with Teflon Coating (Model APFS) is a high-accuracy PT100 RTD temperature sensor designed for reliable temperature measurement in compatible corrosive chemical processes involving acids, alkalis, and aggressive process fluids. Featuring a Class A PT100 sensing element, 6 mm OD × 400 mm SS316 stainless steel sheath, and a directly applied Teflon (PTFE) protective coating, this corrosion-resistant industrial temperature sensor creates a continuous protective barrier between the metallic sheath and compatible process media. With a temperature measurement range of -50°C to +250°C, the sensor is ideal for fixed installations in chemical tanks, reactors, pipelines, vessels, and process equipment where accurate temperature monitoring and enhanced resistance to chemical attack are required.
Unlike a loose PTFE protective sleeve, the bonded Teflon coating is applied directly to the sensor sheath, providing a smooth protective surface without the separate sleeve construction, making it suitable for compatible fixed-geometry process installations. For applications requiring enhanced corrosion resistance, an optional Teflon-coated titanium sheath is also available, subject to process compatibility requirements. The Model APFS features compacted MgO insulation for stable temperature measurement and a rugged IP67 die-cast aluminium terminal head for protection against dust and moisture. Manufactured by Aavad Instrument, this PTFE-coated PT100 RTD sensor is suitable for chemical, petrochemical, fertilizer, dye, specialty chemical, and corrosive process applications where material compatibility is verified against the specific chemical, concentration, temperature, pressure, and operating conditions.

FAQs
1. What is a Teflon-Coated Acid & Alkali RTD Sensor?
A Teflon-Coated Acid & Alkali RTD Sensor is a PT100 Resistance Temperature Detector (RTD) with an SS316 stainless steel sheath coated in Teflon (PTFE) to protect the sensing element from corrosion, aggressive acids, alkalis, and harsh chemical environments. Aavad’s Model APFS is a Class A simplex PT100 RTD with an operating temperature range of -50°C to +250°C.
2. What is the maximum measurable temperature for this Teflon-Coated Sensor?
Although the sensor is specified for an operating range of -50°C to +250°C, it is generally recommended for measuring acid and alkali process temperatures up to approximately 200°C, as PTFE coatings have a lower practical continuous service temperature than the underlying SS316 stainless steel sheath.
3. Can the service life be extended beyond the standard Teflon coating?
Yes. Aavad Instrument offers an optional Teflon-coated Titanium sheath, providing enhanced corrosion resistance and a longer service life in highly aggressive acid and alkali environments compared to the standard Teflon-coated SS316 construction.
4. What is the standard construction of this Teflon-Coated RTD Sensor?
The standard sensor features a 6 mm outer diameter (OD), 400 mm long SS316 probe with compacted Magnesium Oxide (MgO) insulation, a die-cast aluminum IP67 protection head, a 1/2″ NPT cable entry, and a nickel-plated ceramic terminal block for reliable industrial temperature measurement.
5. Where is the Teflon-Coated Acid & Alkali RTD Sensor used?
Teflon-Coated Acid & Alkali RTD Sensors are widely used for acidic media temperature measurement, alkaline process monitoring, chemical processing plants, reactors, storage tanks, pipelines, electroplating, pharmaceutical manufacturing, and other corrosive industrial applications where aggressive chemicals could damage conventional stainless steel temperature sensors.
