Description
Flameproof RTD with Sanitary Fitting (Model APFS-Tri) is a specialized PT100 flameproof temperature sensor engineered for accurate temperature measurement in hazardous industrial areas that also require hygienic process connections. Featuring a Simplex 3-wire PT100 sensing element, mineral-insulated SS316 stainless steel sheath, rugged IP67 flameproof die-cast aluminium terminal head, and 2-inch Tri-Clover (Tri-Clamp) sanitary connection, this industrial RTD sensor combines hazardous-area protection with hygienic process integration. Designed for a temperature range of -50°C to +400°C, it is suitable for pharmaceutical, food and beverage, chemical, fermentation, and other process applications where both explosion protection and sanitary equipment design are important considerations.
The 2-inch Tri-Clamp sanitary process connection enables convenient installation and disconnection from compatible hygienic process equipment, supporting cleaning and maintenance procedures in suitable CIP (Clean-in-Place) systems, while the flameproof terminal head provides protection for electrical terminations in appropriately classified hazardous locations. According to the specified configuration, the sensor is available for gas groups I, IIA, and IIB, with IIC-rated configurations available on request, subject to the applicable product certification and project requirements. Manufactured by Aavad Instrument, the APFS-Tri can also be configured with alternative terminal-head materials, including cast iron, SS304, and SS316, making it a versatile flameproof sanitary RTD sensor for demanding hygienic and hazardous-area temperature measurement applications.

FAQs
1. What is a Flameproof Sanitary RTD Sensor with Tri-Clover Fitting?
A Flameproof Sanitary RTD Sensor combines an explosion-proof die-cast aluminum protection head with a hygienic 2″ Tri-Clover (Tri-Clamp) process connection, enabling safe and accurate temperature measurement in hazardous gas atmospheres while meeting sanitary process requirements. Aavad’s Model APFS-Tri is a 3-wire PT100 RTD Sensor with an operating temperature range of -50°C to +400°C and an IP67 protection rating.
2. What gas group certifications does this Flameproof RTD Sensor carry?
The standard flameproof protection head is certified for Gas Groups I, IIA, and IIB. Aavad Instrument can also manufacture assemblies certified for Gas Group IIC (Hydrogen), the highest hazardous gas classification, on request for applications requiring enhanced explosion protection.
3. What head materials are available for the Flameproof Sanitary RTD Sensor?
In addition to the standard die-cast aluminum flameproof head, Aavad Instrument offers optional protection heads manufactured from cast iron, SS304 stainless steel, and SS316 stainless steel, allowing selection based on corrosion resistance, process conditions, and hazardous-area classification requirements.
4. What is the Process Connection and Cable Entry configuration?
This sensor features a 2″ Tri-Clover (Tri-Clamp) hygienic process connection, a 1/2″ (Female) NPT cable entry, an SS316 stainless steel probe with a 6 mm outer diameter (OD), a 200 mm total probe length below the head, and a 150 mm insertion length below the Tri-Clover fitting.
5. Where is a Flameproof Sanitary RTD Sensor typically used?
Flameproof Sanitary RTD Sensors are widely used in hazardous gas areas, chemical processing plants, oil & gas facilities, hydrogen-rich environments, pharmaceutical manufacturing, specialty chemical processing, and other hygienic industrial applications where both explosion protection and sanitary Tri-Clover process connections are required.
