Description
MI Thermocouple with Head is a heavy-duty duplex mineral insulated (MI) K-Type thermocouple engineered for reliable temperature measurement in hazardous industrial environments. Designed using high-purity compacted magnesium oxide (MgO) insulation within a durable SS316 stainless steel sheath, this thermocouple provides excellent electrical insulation, mechanical protection, vibration resistance, and fast thermal response for demanding process applications.
Unlike simplex thermocouples, the AKFD Duplex MI Thermocouple contains two independent K-Type sensing elements within a single sheath. This duplex configuration allows users to obtain redundant temperature measurements or continue monitoring if one sensing element fails, helping improve process reliability and reduce unplanned downtime.
The thermocouple features a 3200 mm insertion length, making it one of the longest standard flameproof duplex MI thermocouples in the Aavad product range. Its SS316 stainless steel sheath provides excellent corrosion resistance for industrial process environments, while the flameproof die-cast aluminium terminal head with IP67 protection ensures safe operation in hazardous locations exposed to dust, moisture, and potentially explosive atmospheres.
A major advantage of the AKFD is its optional spring-loaded insert configuration, allowing quick replacement inside an existing thermowell without removing the complete assembly. This significantly reduces maintenance time and minimizes process shutdown during sensor replacement.

FAQs
1. What is an MI Thermocouple with Head?
An MI (Mineral Insulated) Thermocouple with Head is a temperature sensor in which the thermocouple wires are insulated with highly compacted magnesium oxide (MgO), enclosed within a durable metal sheath, and terminated in a protective connection head. This robust construction provides excellent mechanical strength, superior electrical insulation, fast thermal response, and long service life in demanding industrial environments.
2. What is the advantage of a Duplex MI Thermocouple?
A Duplex MI Thermocouple contains two independent sensing elements inside a single sheath. This design enables redundant temperature monitoring, allows one sensing element to continue operating if the other fails, supports simultaneous monitoring and control, and helps minimize process downtime in critical industrial applications.
3. Why choose a Spring-Loaded MI Thermocouple?
A Spring-Loaded MI Thermocouple is ideal for thermowell installations because the spring mechanism keeps the sensing tip in continuous contact with the bottom of the thermowell. This improves heat transfer, enhances measurement accuracy and response time, and allows the thermocouple to be replaced quickly without removing the complete thermowell assembly.
