Description
Spring Loaded Thermocouple is a simplex K-Type temperature sensor specifically engineered for installation inside thermowells, where maintaining continuous contact between the sensing tip and the thermowell bottom is essential for fast and accurate temperature measurement.
In conventional fixed thermocouples, thermal expansion, vibration, or slight dimensional variations inside the thermowell can create a small air gap between the sensing tip and the bottom of the thermowell. Even a minimal gap can slow heat transfer, increasing response time and causing measurement lag.
The AKWS-I6S addresses this challenge through a spring-loaded terminal block that continuously applies forward pressure to the sensing insert. As operating conditions change, the internal spring automatically compensates for thermal expansion and minor dimensional tolerances, ensuring the sensing tip remains firmly seated against the thermowell bottom. This improves thermal contact, enhances response speed, and supports more consistent temperature measurement.
The sensor incorporates a 6 mm Inconel 600 mineral insulated sheath, providing excellent resistance to oxidation, vibration, and thermal cycling for continuous operation from 0°C to 850°C. Its 850 mm insertion length makes it suitable for a wide range of thermowell assemblies used in industrial process equipment.
A rugged standard die-cast aluminium terminal head with IP65 protection safeguards electrical connections in demanding industrial environments, while the compact design allows straightforward installation and maintenance.

FAQs
1. What is a Spring Loaded Thermocouple?
A Spring Loaded Thermocouple is an industrial temperature sensor specifically designed for installation inside thermowells. An internal spring mechanism applies continuous pressure to the sensing tip, ensuring firm contact with the bottom of the thermowell for improved heat transfer, faster response time, and more accurate temperature measurement.
2. Why is a spring mechanism important?
The internal spring automatically compensates for thermal expansion, vibration, and minor manufacturing tolerances within the thermowell. This eliminates air gaps between the sensing tip and the thermowell bottom, improving thermal conductivity, increasing measurement accuracy, and reducing sensor response time in demanding industrial environments.
3. Where are Spring Loaded Thermocouples used?
Spring Loaded Thermocouples are widely used in chemical plants, petrochemical facilities, power stations, boilers, pipelines, reactors, heat exchangers, pharmaceutical manufacturing, food processing plants, oil & gas industries, and industrial automation systems that utilize thermowell-mounted temperature sensors for continuous process monitoring.
