Description
The S Type Thermocouple is one of the most widely used noble metal temperature sensors for continuous high-temperature industrial processes. Known for its excellent measurement stability, oxidation resistance, and long service life, it is commonly installed in glass furnaces, heat treatment plants, ceramic kilns, petrochemical facilities, power generation equipment, and calibration laboratories where accurate temperature monitoring above 1200°C is essential.
The Aavad Instrument Model ASIS S Type Thermocouple is designed for continuous operation up to 1600°C, with the ability to withstand brief temperature excursions up to 1700°C under suitable operating conditions. It uses a Platinum-10% Rhodium / Platinum (Pt10%Rh/Pt) sensing element that has become the industry standard for many legacy furnace control systems. Because numerous industrial controllers and indicators are already calibrated for the Type S characteristic curve, it remains the preferred choice for upgrading or replacing existing high-temperature instrumentation without requiring changes to the control system.
To ensure reliable operation in demanding furnace environments, the sensing element is enclosed within a double ceramic protection system comprising high-purity Ker-710 alumina inner and outer protection tubes. This design provides excellent electrical insulation while protecting the platinum-rhodium conductors from contamination, thermal shock, and mechanical damage. The ceramic assembly is supported by an SS310 holding tube, while a weatherproof die-cast aluminium terminal head with IP67 protection safeguards electrical connections against dust and moisture in industrial installations.
The thermocouple performs best in oxidizing and inert atmospheres, where platinum-rhodium elements maintain their stability and accuracy over extended operating periods. For installations exposed to reducing atmospheres or contaminating compounds, appropriate protection and process evaluation are recommended to maximize sensor life.
